Jazz at Studio Z presents drummer and composer Davu Seru and his No Territory Band featuring Noah Ophoven-Baldwin, Pat O'Keefe, Nathan Hanson, Scott Fultz, and Levi Schwartzberg.

As always, the concert will feature two sets of music starting at 7p with a master class preceding it at 6p. For this show's master class, Davu will be presenting on "Composition. Improvisation. Memory."

Davu Seru - drums
Noah Ophoven-Baldwin - cornet
Pat O'Keefe - clarinets
Nathan Hanson - saxophones
Scott Fultz - saxophones
Levi Schwartzberg - vibraphone

Davu Seru is a drummer and composer. He has worked with numerous improvising musicians and composers throughout the United States and France. He currently curates three monthly music series and is composer and bandleader for the ensemble No Territory Band. He is member of the composer-improviser orchestra Cherry Spoon Collective and Trio SDS with French musicians Guilluame Seguron and Catherine Delaunay. In addition to his musical pursuits, Davu is a published author and a professor of African American literature and culture. As a musician he has received awards from the American Composers Forum, the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council and has received commissions from the Zeitgeist Ensemble and Walker Art Center.

About the Master Class:
The talk and demonstration will focus on composing which only implies familiar musical idioms--leaving the problem of authenticity and cliched language to the improviser.

Jazz at Studio Z features a diverse lineup of Minnesota's greatest jazz musicians and is dedicated to providing the community with greater access to the music and the opportunity to learn directly from the musicians at the workshops each month.

Tickets can be securely purchased by credit card or through your PayPal account in advance, or by cash, check, or credit card at the door. Tickets purchased online will be held at the door.
