Jazz at Studio Z wraps up their 2018/2019 season with their annual emerging artists showcase featuring three acts: Sophia Kickhofel Quartet, Jake Baldwin Quintet, and Stephanie Wiesler Quartet. The concert will begin at 7 pm, and there will be a MASTER CLASS IMAGINATION, HYBRIDITY & IMPROVISATION presented by Erik Fratzke at 6 pm.
Sophia Kickhofel is a 16 year old alto saxophonist from Apple Valley who has recently been featured in the Star Tribune after being named to one of two spots on the National Youth Orchestra Jazz roster which will include a two week run at Carnegie Hall this summer. Her quartet will feature Lasse Corson on piano, Jon Butler on bass, and Carter Pearson on drums. Trumpeter Jake Baldwin is hardly an emerging artist, having become a vital part of the Twin Cities jazz scene over the last several years since graduating from New England Conservatory. He tours regularly with Har Mar Superstar. His quintet features Nelson Devereaux on saxophones, Joseph Strachan on piano, Ted Olsen on bass, and Miguel Hurtado on drums. Saxophonist Stephanie Wieseler is another graduate of New England Conservatory and an exciting newer voice in the Twin Cities jazz scene. She has toured with Bon Iver and will be joined by Zacc Harris on guitar, Charlie Lincoln on bass, and Greg Schutte on drums. In addition to our showcase, there will be a fundraiser to make the season income goal.
