Keys Please
Weekend at Keys Please
Feb. 6-7, 2015
Studio Z: 275 East Fourth Street, Suite 200, St. Paul 8 p.m. $10 / free for students |
Pianist-composers Carei Thomas, Todd Harper and Paul Cantrell started Keys Please in 2002, and this mid-winter tradition has become a staple of the Twin Cities new music calendar. The annual concert takes on musics of diverse genres for an evening of sonic surprise, wonder and beauty. You will hear poemmetry, “weather permitting,” compositions old and new, and most of all the pleasure of musical friendship shared!
This year's special guest is saxophonist Nathan Hanson, an improviser and composer whose music is alternately lyrical, angular, and meditative. What style? More jazz than anything, but Nathan plays with the sort of open-doored freedom that makes writing expository text like this very difficult! His music is its own best description. Come hear it.
