Jenny Klukken and special musical guests present an evening of marimba-centered music inspired by classical, Latin, jazz, and American folk music. Along with Jenny Klukken on marimba, the audience will hear Robert Everest (guitar/vocals), Michael Bissonette (percussion), and The OK Factor (violin: Karla Colahan, cello: Olivia Diercks).
In the spring of 2018, Jenny Klukken traveled to Paris to study marimba, composition, and improvisation with Eric Sammut through the Metropolitan Region Arts Council "Next Step" grant. In addition to her time taking rigorous lessons with Sammut, Jenny spent her time composing works for marimba that incorporated her unique approach to the instrument. Jenny's compositions and arrangements give a new voice to the modern marimba, an otherwise classical/repertoire-based instrument, and leave room for improvisation and free-play. This event is the premiere of works from this grant project, in addition to past compositions and arrangements by Jenny. The group of 5 musicians will also perform various works that have been collectively arranged, as well as pieces that highlight guests musicians. Tickets can be securely purchased by credit card or through your PayPal account in advance, or by cash, check, or credit card at the door. Tickets purchased online will be held at the door.
