Metro Blend: Twin Cities Composer Commissions
April 25, 2020
Studio Z: 275 East Fourth Street, Suite 200, St. Paul
$0-$20 sliding scale
Sprig of That commissioned eight composers from across the Minneapolis - St. Paul music community to write pieces of three minutes or less for Indian tabla drums, guitar, and violin, and optional vocals. Selecting composers who write in a variety of styles, Sprig of That’s Metro Blend concert series features these compositions in seven concerts across the Twin Cities Metro area: one in each of the seven counties in April and May, 2020. Through this project, Sprig of That hopes to enrich the Twin Cities music community for composers, musicians, and audiences.
Through this project, Sprig of That hopes to enrich the Twin Cities music community by:
- Offering Twin Cities area composers, including artistically under-represented genders, races, sexual orientations, abilities, and career levels, an opportunity to compose a short work for an established ensemble of unusual instrumentation (Indian tabla drums, guitar, and violin).
- Challenging themselves as an ensemble to perform works by a broad range of composers, and to expand their awareness of what an ensemble of this unusual instrumentation can achieve from a variety of composer perspectives.
- Expose audiences to the ensemble, and to build community in the 7-county metro by connecting audience members with local composers.
