Aniruddha Dutta's music emerges from the interstices and overlaps between western and Indian (Hindustani) classical musics, blending ragas, modal harmonies and serial techniques. Within this larger framework, their music draws from an eclectic range of influences, ranging across the canonical western tradition, eastern European composers, Hindustani Khayal, Dhrupad and instrumental genres, and the Bengali art song tradition, mediating between them to create a flexible idiom that is (hopefully) yet individual and personal. Aniruddha will perform three of her piano compositions:
1) Contemplation from "Drive, Contemplation, Balance" 2) Dance in Miniature 3) Aphorisms in Varied Ragas "These three pieces for piano were composed at various periods of my life, with the first piece being an early composition from my late teenage years and the last being a very recent composition. All of them utilize modal harmonies and rhythmic techniques drawn from Hindustani classical music, though the Hindustani influence is especially prominent in the third." Downrange Telemetrics is noted Twin Cities-based poet/performer/singer Becca Barniskis and guitarist Nick Jaffe, a veteran of the Chicago soul, hip hop, post-rock, and experimental music scenes. They frequently collaborate with other musicians and artists. DT has performed to critical acclaim in a wide variety of music and other venues around the upper Midwest as well as on radio and live-television. Barniskis’s mesmerizing voice, angular imagery and odd characters and stories are at once comedic and sinister, and blend effortlessly with the musicians’ evocative improvisational soundscapes and hypnotic grooves. The name Downrange Telemetrics speaks to the band’s mission: to provide audiences raw “telemetric” data in the form of sounds, words, associations, stories, and characters with which to construct their own, unique cinematic experience.
Downrange Telemetrics will present selections from Space Dog Gun Dog Church Dog. Different dogs have different ideas. Space Dog Gun Dog Church Dog explores three idiosyncratic canine perspectives. Rebecca Hass is a bit of a musical chameleon who has somewhat diverted herself from her classical background into the exciting worlds of jazz and Brazilian music of many types. She works as a piano teacher, performer, accompanist, and arranger. Rebecca will perform a sweet Brazilian choro serenata for piano that also resembles Chopin and Debussy.
Rob Cooper is a singer/songwriter fluent in folk, blues, jazz, and contemporary acoustic guitar. He will perform three of his songs: Long and Lonely Road, Waiting for the 4:15, and Round and Round and Round.
