From re-enacting a barn raising to sharing an artist’s whimsical vision of resurrection and afterlife, OboeBass! creates experiences that bring people together and capture listeners’ sense of wonder. With over 40 premieres, and commissions from Chamber Music America and The Fromm Foundation, OboeBass! partners with a wide range of composers to explore the captivating sounds created by pairing oboe and bass. Thursday, August 17, 7:00 p.m. $10/$15 students /seniors Enjoy the wild, colorful, and lively sounds of woodwinds in a performance of “A Musical Field Guide to Minnesota Wildflowers” by local composer Jonathan Posthuma. Inspired by the beauty of Minnesotan wildflowers, this new musical collection portrays a variety of plant species using different combinations of woodwinds such as oboe, clarinet, saxophone and bassoon. ![]() Twin Cities Reed Quintet
Tuesday, May 9, 7 p.m. $15 / $10 students The Twin Cities Reed Quintet brings together top musicians in the classical, jazz, world, and contemporary music scenes to present music from the new and ever-growing repertoire of the reed quintet. These five reed instruments (oboe, saxophone, clarinet, bass clarinet, and bassoon) create a wonderfully rich and vibrant ensemble sonority that is well-suited to works of many different styles. Even though the reed quintet is a relatively new chamber music configuration that was only developed in the 1980s, it is the mission of the TCRQ to perform a wide range of music, both original and adapted, from many genres, including the baroque polyphony of Handel, the jazzy harmonies of Gershwin, and the rocking and rollicking minimalism of Marc Mellits. Wednesday, April 12, 7 p.m. $15 / $10 students Keyna Wilkins is a pioneering Australian/British composer-musician. She was one of three finalists for the Australian Art Music Awards for Individual Excellence in 2021 and 2018 (APRA/AMCOS). As an innovative soloist her solo show explores stream-of-consciousness improvisations merging jazz and art music, alongside her composed pieces, often using loop pedal and visual projections and inspired by contemporary human rights issues, astronomical phenomena and thoughts. She has collaborated with six detained refugees from their prison cells via zoom, victims of Australia's brutal mandatory refugee detention laws for nine years, on various music, poetry and art collaborations. She has performed her solo show around Australia including Phoenix Central Park, MONA, Sydney Women's International Jazz Festival, Melbourne Digital Concert Hall, Australian Flute Festival and many other venues. ![]() Todd Harper's Visual/Intuitive Scores

Friday, March 24, 7:30 p.m. $15 / $10 students Studio Z presents an evening of music by adventurous Twin Cities composer Joshua Musikantow, featuring Zeitgeist performing selections from Flare, which sets texts written by the composer, and vocal excerpts from Yiddish is My Homeland, a new work for string quartet and two voices, featuring vocalists Alyssa Anderson and Justin Spenner singing poetry by first generation Jewish American authors. Thursday, March 16, 7:30 p.m. $15 / $10 students Spitting Image Collective presents NYC-based contemporary chamber group Unheard-of//Ensemble in a concert featuring new works by Spitting Image composers Katherine Bergman, Joshua Clausen, and Daniel Nass, plus special guest composer Asuka Kakitani. Unheard-of//Ensemble, (Ford Fourqurean (clarinet), Erica Dicker (violin), Iva Casian-Lakoš (cello), and Daniel Anastasio (piano) is a contemporary chamber ensemble dedicated to connecting new music to communities across the United States through the development and performance of adventurous programs, using technology and interactive multimedia. ![]() ANCIA Saxophone Quartet Album Release Concert
Saturday, March 11, 7:30 p.m. $15 in advance & for students / $20 at the door The ANCIA Saxophone Quartet will present a high-octane concert featuring a diverse range of music, including the minimalistic, and R&B flavored Ex Machina by Chicago based Marc Mellits and the ethereal Elysian Bridges by John Anthony Lennon. A special feature of the concert will be performances of two pieces from Ancia’s newest album including the title track Confluence by Minnesota’s own Libby Larsen and Thank You by Jerry Dodgion. The CD, released on the Albany label, will be available for purchase at a wine and hors d'oeuvres reception following the concert. |
